TVP - Textured Vegetable Protein is a meat substitute made from defatted soy flour. It is quick to cook, high in protein, and low in fat. TVP is truly versatile, different forms allowing it to take on the texture of whatever ground meat it is substituting. Using textured vegetable protein, you can make vegetarian or vegan versions of traditionally meat dishes such as Chili, Spaghetti Bolognese, Sloppy Joes, Tacos, Burgers, or Burritos.
Textured Vegetable Protein, made from soy beans, has an unusually long storage life. Hermetically sealed in the absence of oxygen, plan on a storage life of 15-20 years at a stable temperature of 70 degrees F. TVP should keep proportionately longer if stored at cooler temperatures.
